You must have heard people, especially those abroad chorus this saying; “Despite the challenges in Nigeria, Nigerians have a way of making themselves happy.”
However, recent statistics have that it is not the case that people are happy in Nigeria with the current state of things in the country.
According to the World Happiness Report published by the United Nations recently, Nigeria ranks 116 out of 146 countries based on how happy people are.
The report revealed that Nigeria has dropped 38 points in the last six years.
However, The UN report said the COVID-19 pandemic led to āonly modest changes in the overall rankings, reflecting both the global nature of the pandemic and a widely shared resilience in the face of itā.
The report ranks Finland as the happiest in the world followed by Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland and Norway.
Surprisingly, war-tornĀ Libya is ranked as the happiest country in Africa and 80th in the world.
The World Happiness Report is compiled based on respondents ratings of their own lives,Ā which the report also correlates with variousĀ (quality of) life factors.
