8 things to know about the new Chief of Army Staff, Major General Farouk Yahaya!

President Buhari has appointed a new Chief of Army Staff a few days after the death of Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru who died in a fatal plane crash last Friday.

The appointment of Major-General Farouk Yahaya has been met with different reactions by Nigerians on Twitter.

Here are eight things you should know about the new Chief of Army Staff;

• Major General Farouk Yahaya is from Sokoto State
• Before his appointment Major General Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding 1 Division of the Nigerian Army
• The new COAS is a member of the Regular Combatant Course 37. 
• Yahaya is the third Chief of Army Staff appointed by Buhari.
• He once served as Military Secretary (MS) Army at Army headquarters in Abuja before his appointment as GOC 1 division in Kaduna.H
• He was the Commander of 4 Brigade Headquarters of the Nigerian Army.
• He was the Theatre Commander of the counter-terrorism military outfit in the North East code-named Operation HADIN KAI.e
• He is the 22nd Chief of Army Staff in Nigeria.
