Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the Semi-finals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations with a slim victory over Angola.
Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman scored the only goal of the match in the 41st minute via brilliant finish from the box.
Angola had the chance to take the lead early in the match via a corner but Nwabali put the ball away for another corner.
After a nervy start to the match, Super Eagles settled in and created a couple of chances with Osimhen’s header saved by Angola’s goalkeeper, Signori Antonio.
The Super Eagles took the lead a few minutes to the end of the first half via a blistering counter attack. Zaidu Sanusi found Moses Simon in space on the left flank who used his pace to beat his marker before squaring the ball into the box for Lookman.
The 26-year-old made no mistake as he buried a left-footed strike into the roof of the net to give Super Eagles the lead.
The second half started with the Super Eagles dominating possession but failed to convert their chances.
The momentum switched to the Angolans and the Palankas Negras came close to equalising twice in the match.
Twenty-one year old midfielder Zini found himself in space from a brilliant pass from midfield, and powers a strike towrads goal but it came off the goal post.
Victor Osimhen thought he had given the Super Eagles the second goal as he rose highest to hesd Ademola Lookman’s cross into the net but his goal was ruled for offside by the VAR.
Osimhen had anothee chance to score as he was played through by Ademola Lookman but his goal-bound strike was blocked.
With a minute left to the end of regualr time, Zito Luvumbo unleashed a left-footed strike from the edge of the box but once again, Nwanbali put the ball out of danger with a comfortable save.
The match ended 1 nil as Nigeria progressed to their 16th AFCON semi-finals where they will take on the winners between South Africa and Cape Verde.
