Senator Ali Ndume Calls For Slash Of Civil Servants’ Salary (video)
Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South has stated that the salaries for Civil Servants should be slashed.
Ndume called for the slash based off the implications for the national budget and the impact of the deadly Coronavirus.
Speaking to the media, Ndume who is the chairman of the Senate Committee on Army revealed that some civil servants are sitting home doing nothing because of a national lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic and are receiving their full benefits instead of palliative and part payment
He also called for a reduction in the salaries of lawmakers in the wake of the pandemic.
He said, “As far as I’m concerned, we can make the National Assembly a part-time arrangement for now since we conduct our sitting once or twice in a week these days.
If we make it part-time, that means our salaries must be reduced. The reality is that we can’t continue in a situation like this where 70 per cent of the country’s budget is going to personnel and recurrent expenditure as if everything is okay.
This is a time when we are borrowing to fund the budget and it would not be wise to be spending the money to pay for services not rendered.”
