The choir was made up of the children of people who have or are currently serving in the armed forces, with the act paying an heartfelt tribute to their families.

The choir, which consists of members aged six to 18, performed a song that they had written during lockdown.

The song, titled Welcome Home, aimed to bring families together whose parents were out on deployment.

Before their act, a video showed Simon Cowell going to the choir’s church and inviting them to perform on the talent show, leaving the children shocked.

Alongside the performance, the choir displayed a collection of pictures featuring members of the armed forces returning home to their families.

And it seemed to tug the heartstrings of both the judges and the audience, as the choir received a standing ovation from both – without a dry eye in the house.

Wiping away her tears, Amanda gushed over the performance and showed her admiration for the children, saying: ‘I’m a mess, when the pictures came up of you with your mums and your dads, that’s when I just fell apart.

‘I just think how strong you all are to have to do without them when they’re doing something so extraordinary for us.

‘That’s incredibly unselfish of you to lend them to us for our own safety – so thank you,’ she continued.

They went down a hit with the judges too, as Amanda said they had ‘reduced me to tears’, while Simon described it as ‘the best audition we have seen all day’.

But it wasn’t just heartwarming acts that took the stage on Saturday evening, as the judges were left on the edge of their seats during a gripping performance from acrobatic group The Freaks.

The group took their act to new heights with a range of daring stunts, including using some members as human skipping ropes.

While another girl was catapulted into the air before being dropped down again, leaving Amanda and Alesha Dixon shaking in their seats.

The group had the two women covering their eyes in fear as they whispered: ‘Imagine that was your daughter’.

But after successfully pulling it out of the bag, they received a standing ovation as David named it ‘one of the most extraordinary things we’ve seen on Britain’s got talent’.

Afterwards, a spooky act took things to new heights as they smashed a cockroach-filled apple into Amanda’s hand – leaving her and Alesha shrieking and running away from the panel.

The Witch act had made each judge choose an apple and bite into it, before cracking open the final apple on Amanda and unleashing the insects across the panel.
