The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major-General Abdul Khalifa has in his magnanimous gesture, has presented Christmas gifts items to people displaced by the Boko Haram insurgents in Borno State.
The items were presented to them at the Gubio IDP camp by the representative of the GOC, Lt. Col. Andrew Wuyep, Commander of 195 Battalion of the Army.
No less than 32, 232 individuals and 6, 664 families have been displaced from Abadam, Kukawa, Monguno, Nganzai, Bama, Konduga, Ngala, Kala Balge and Gwoza LGAs since 2015.
According to Lt. Col Andrew Wuyep, who spoke on behalf of the GOC, said the gesture by the Army is in a bid to foster civil-military relations and also to put smiles on the faces of the beneficiaries during the festive period.
In his words;
This exercise is in continuation of our efforts geared at winning the hearts and minds of the civil population to support the armyโs counter-insurgency campaigns in line with the goals of the Chief of Army Staff.
This event also provided a favourable platform to sensitise the IDPs on the need to be security-conscious and responsive in reporting to the security agencies any suspected movement or strange activity that would breach peace”ย

He encouraged the IDPs to be security conscious and resolute till it is safe for them to return to their respective homes.
