Bandits kill seven police officers in Zamfara! 2

At least seven police officers were killed when armed men ambushed them in Zonai village, Magami district, Zamfara state.

The ambush happened on Monday night along the Magani-Gusau route, where patrol teams were stationed to keep the peace in the region.

Due to a lack of phone services in villages outside of the state capital, the patrol was outmanned and overwhelmed by the armed men, and they were unable to call for reinforcements.

A source in the community, Salisu Sani, said, “The bandits ambushed the police personnel, killed seven of them and set their operational vehicle ablaze”, adding that the bandits who were in large number engaged the police operatives in a gun battle, as a result of which seven of the police personnel were killed on the spot.

“I saw their dead bodies being evacuated to Gusau”, Sani said.

The Magami hamlet lies a few kilometers from the Dansadau area, which is recognized as one of Zamfara state’s hotbeds of banditry.

The raid came less than 48 hours after bandits killed seven people and damaged valuables in the Rijiya village.

Attempts to contact state officers were unsuccessful since the commissioner of police and the public relations officer’s phone lines were both inaccessible.
