Black Mirror season six cast revealed: Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul and Kate Mara lead the stars joining show as production kicks off

The cast for Black Mirror season six has been revealed with the likes of Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul and Kate Mara joining the cast.

According to Variety, a host of actors have signed up for the new series, which is currently in production.

Also joining the show are Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton, Danny Ramirez and Anjana Vasan.

The publication reports that this group of actors will span the first three episodes of season six, with more stars yet to be unveiled for latter episodes.

Aaron Paul is best known for his starring role in Breaking Bad while Kate Mara has appeared in shows including House Of Cards and American Horror Story.

Former teen heartthrob Josh Hartnett is known for roles in films like Pearl Harbour, The Virgin Suicides and 40 Days And 40 Nights.

Paapa Essiedu recently appeared in the horror film Men alongside Jessie Buckley while he also starred in acclaimed comedy-drama I May Destroy You.

Auden Thornton is known to audiences as Lucy Damon in This Is Us while Anjana Vasan previously starred in We Are Lady Parts.

Though not much is currently known about the hit dystopian anthology series, sources did reveal that the upcoming season will have more episodes than the last installment.

Season five consisted of just three episodes though each of the episodes ran for over an hour.

Season five featured a star-studded cast including Wrecking Ball singer Miley Cyrus, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Anthony Mackie, That 70s Show actor Topher Grace and Candyman star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. 

Variety also reported that a source close to the show said it will be even more ‘cinematic’ in scope with each episode being treated as a film.

Such treatment is not abnormal for Netflix when it comes to their biggest hits. The upcoming season of Stranger Things reportedly cost upwards of $30 million an episode. 

Production hit a standstill back in 2020 after Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones left their production company House of Tomorrow. 

House of Tomorrow’s parent company Endemol Shine Group still owned the rights to Black Mirror and sold them to Banijay Group in the summer of 2020.

Netflix was eventually able to work out a deal with a division of Banijay Group that licensed the show out to the streaming giant. 

Black Mirror first aired on Channel 4 back in 2011. It moved to Netflix beginning with its third season that aired in 2016. 

The show has won myriad awards including eight Primetime Emmys as well as a Peabody Award.
