BLACKPINK’s Lisa tests positive for COVID-19… as fellow girl group members Jisoo, Jennie and Rosé await their PCR results

BLACKPINK’s Lisa has tested positive for COVID-19. 

According to a statement released by her agency YG Entertainment, the 24-year-old K-pop star – real name Lalisa Manobal – was diagnosed with the novel coronavirus on Wednesday.

‘The other three BLACKPINK members have not been classified as close contacts yet, but they immediately received PCR tests after hearing of Lisa’s positive COVID-19 results, and they are currently awaiting their results,’ the statement read.

The girl group BLACKPINK is comprised of Thai rapper Lisa, South Korean singers Jennie, 25, and Jisoo, 26, and New Zealand-born Korean singer Rosé, 24.

YG added: ‘We first shared this information quickly and accurately with representatives and staff, and we took strong preemptive measures even beyond the guidelines of health authorities.

‘We will continue to not hold back on providing full support with the health of our artists and related staff members as the top priority. If there are any changes in the future, we will once again notify you quickly.’

South Korea is currently experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, the majority of which have been concentrated in the country’s capital city of Seoul. 

Lisa became YG’s first foreign trainee in 2011 after she was the only individual out of 4,000 applicants in her home country of Thailand to pass the entertainment agency’s 2010 audition.

YG formed BLACKPINK in 2016 and the group debuted their first album Square One in August of that year.

The album was a massive commercial success with the group’s singles Whistle and Boombayah charting at number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Song Sales.

In November 2016, BLACKPINK released their second album Square Two and they became the first K-pop girl group to chart on the Canadian Hot 100.

BLACKPINK released their first Korean language EP Square Up in 2018. They became the first K-pop group to enter the Official Trending Chart in the UK when their lead single Ddu-Du Ddu-Du debuted at number 17.

Ddu-Du Ddu-Du went to become one of the most videos of all time on YouTube, racking up 36.2 million views within 24 hours of its release.

In October 2018, they teamed up with British superstar Dua Lipa for her song Kiss and Make Up. BLACKPINK collaborated with Lady Gaga on her sixth studio album Chromatica and released the single Sour Candy in May 2020. 

The group released Ice Cream featuring Selena Gomez in August 2020. BLACKPINK debuted their first Korean studio album The Album in October 2020 and became the highest-charting female act on both the Billboard200 and the UK Album Chart.

In September 2021, Lisa released her first solo album titled Lalisa. The music video for her lead single Lalisa dethroned Taylor Swift’s 2019 hit ME! to become the most viewed music video on Youtube within 24 hours of its release.

Last month, Lisa collaborated with Megan Thee Stallion on the American rapper’s track SG, along with DJ Snake and Ozuna.
