The Super Eagles of Nigeria will take on the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the Semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire.
After a hundred and twenty minutes without a goal, the 1996 chmapions progressed via penalties as they dumped Cape Verde out of the competition.
Rowen Williams was the hero for Hugo Broos’ side as the 23-year-old goalkeeper saved four penalties during the shootout.
The penalty shootout was quite dramatic with Cape Verde losing four of five attempts while South Africa missed two out of four.
South Africa will play in the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since the 2000 edition where they lost to Nigeria in Lagos.
A first-half brace by former Super Eagles winger, Tijani Babaginda knocked Bafana Bafana ensured a 2 nil victory for Nigeria.
Nigeria last played South Africa in the quarter-finals of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt and the match ended 2-1 in favour of the Super Eagles.
The match will take place on Wednesday 7, February at the Stade De La Plaix in Bouaké. The other Semi-final fixture will see host Cote D’Ivoire who knocked out Mali in dramatic fashion take on DR Congo on the same day.
