Host Lorraine Kelly asked her: ‘You look terrific – you really really do. How do you stay that way? How do you age gracefully and happily?’

Claire replied: ‘I think it’s just dressing appropriately, I changed my hair slightly. Just embrace it and enjoy being you.

‘I’m a stone overweight at the moment but that’ll come off. Don’t beat yourself up over things.’

Loraine replied: ‘You’re a wise woman. Far too many of us put things off – thinking I’ll wear that when I lose a stone. Wear it now!’

Laughing, Claire said: ‘Get your suck-in knickers on and wear a frock!’

It comes after the Brookside actress previously admitted that she struggled when she turned 50 last year.

Claire revealed she had a ‘wobble’ as the landmark celebration approached but that on the day she managed to fully embrace her age.

Speaking on Loose Women, she said: ‘To me, it just sounded so old. I couldn’t bring myself to actually say it.’

Blaming the showbusiness industry for her insecurities, Claire explained: ‘We’re in an industry that’s quite ageist and [middle age] its a middle ground for an actress.’

‘Mid 40s… it’s older roles… not young glamorous roles any more,’ said the star.

But happily Claire overcame her concerns, saying: ‘Cut to my 50th birthday I just wound up embracing it… I felt the best I’ve felt in years.

‘I’ve never felt better than I’ve felt now and that’s partly due to being at home and not working so hard… Chilling with my son not being such a workaholic,’ said the single mother.
