Clayton Echard doesn’t ‘harbor any resentment’ for Nick Viall after he questioned his casting as the new Bachelor
It appears new star of The Bachelor, Clayton Echard, has a forgiving spirit.
The 28-year-old responded to former Bachelor Nick Viall, 41 – who recently questioned ABC’s pick of Echard for the next season – saying he holds no ill will toward him.
Echard appeared on a new episode of SiriusXM’s Pop Culture Spotlight with Jessica Shaw where he shared, ‘I don’t harbor any resentment for somebody that makes a comment like that.’

Echard went on to say, ‘Again, I think that’s his platform. He kind of speculates on all these things, and he doesn’t know anything about me.’
The Missouri native also added, ‘If he still feels that way towards the end of it, then fair, sure. We’ll have a conversation at that point. Right. I’ll talk with him and say, “You know, what is it that you don’t get?” But for now, I do understand.’
Viall was confused with Echard’s casting, since he had very little screen time on Michelle Young’s 18th season of The Bachelorette.
He told PEOPLE, ‘I don’t really get the choice.’ The former Bachelor went on to state that he believes Young’s top four contenders all would have made a better option.
‘I’ve been kind of critical of the selection,’ he said in a recent interview with the magazine.

Viall went on to state that his opinion had nothing to do with personal feelings regarding Echard, whom he called a ‘nice enough fellow,’ but that he simply thought there were ‘more charismatic’ choices available.
‘Just looking at Michelle’s top four, each of the top four has better storylines, more charisma. They have out-shined Clayton in every possible way,’ he said.
The Wisconsin born television personality added that viewers didn’t get to see much of Clayton on the show, and that he was worried the new season would have ‘a lot of platitudes’ and ‘a lot of very high level “nice,”‘ which he deemed as inauthentic.
However Viall also had a positive thought for Echard, saying he hopes the new Bachelor can prove him wrong.
Veteran Bachelor: Viall has an extensive history with the show, having appeared on The Bachelorette twice and then starring in his own season of The Bachelor in 2015
Viall has quite a bit of experience on the show to back up his claims. He first appeared as a contestant on The Bachelorette in 2014, on Andi Dorfman’s season, but despite making it to top two he did not get the final rose.
He then reappeared on the show in 2015, making it to the final two yet again, and getting his heart broken one more time.
in 2016 he starred on his own season of The Bachelor, and proposed to contestant Vanessa Grimaldi. Unfortunately, the two split after the show ended.
Meanwhile Echard’s reign as the new Bachelor starts on January 3rd.
