My Kitchen Rules chef Colin Fassnidge takes a thinly veiled swipe at MasterChef Australia’s dismal ratings

Former My Kitchen Rules judge Colin Fassnidge couldn’t resist taking a swipe at MasterChef Australia’s ‘bad’ ratings on Thursday.

The Channel 10 cooking show premiered to just 545,000 metro viewers on Monday – its lowest launch in 14 seasons – before sinking to 376,000 for Wednesday’s episode.

Referencing MKR’s similar decline before it was axed in 2020, Colin, 47, tweeted: ‘The last time I seen bad ratings like this on a show… I was on it.’

Colin was alluding to his final outing as a judge on MKR two years ago, which saw the show’s ratings sink to a record low of 395,000 metro viewers.

Only 553,000 people from the five major cities tuned in to watch the season finale, and the program has not been on air since.

However, Channel Seven did announce last year the series was set for a revival in 2022, with chef Manu Feildel as the main judge.

Former MKR judge Pete Evans, who gained notoriety during the Covid pandemic for his anti-vax views, will not be returning for the new season.

It comes after Colin was announced as the new host of Seven’s Kitchen Nightmares Australia, which is set to launch later this year.

The series was fronted by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay in Britain and the U.S.

Colin insists he won’t be exhibiting the same short temper as his British counterpart.

‘If you are after a show screaming and shouting in people’s faces, that is not what I want to do,’ the Irish-born restaurateur said.

‘I am a lot older now. Maybe 10 years ago I was like that but not now.’

‘I don’t think anyone wants to see me go in at this time with the hospitality industry on its knees and be screaming and shouting at people.’

Kitchen Nightmares ran in the UK for five seasons from 2004 to 2007, before returning for a one-off season in 2014.

It also ran from 2007 to 2014 in the U.S. on Fox.
