The Nigerian Government have been evacuating citizens of the country stranded in various countries of the world as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
Recently, 117 Nigerians stranded in three East Africa countries; Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda returned to the country via AZMAN Air and stranded Nigerians in Ukraine have also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to bring them back to the country.
One of them who spoke to a news source said there are over 200 Nigerians stranded in the country and they are all waiting for President Buhari to begin their own evacuation plan.
“We have over 200 Nigerians stranded in Ukraine since the closure of the airports. We are appealing to the government to allow Turkish airlines or any other airline to fly to Nigeria. Most of us had purchased our flight tickets before Ukraine banned international flight. The government should immediately intervene and help us to return home.”
The stranded Nigerians also said that the Nigerian Embassy in Ukraine has been extorting them and also giving them. fake assurances of evacuation by the Nigerian Government.
“The last time we contacted the embassy, we were told that the embassy was working on the evacuation. This is being done to exploit us. The embassy officials have been extorting us here. It is clear that they are all acting for their benefits alone”
