A driver has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous and drink-driving after a crash in which an 11-year-old schoolgirl suffered serious injuries.

The motorist, 32, was arrested following the accident on Reddicap Heath Road in Sutton Coldfield at around 3pm on Thursday.

The junction where the wreckage of a black car was photographed is close to Fairfac and John Willmott secondary schools.

After 999 was called police, a fire crew from Perry Barr and an ambulance crew arrived on the scene.

Photographs showed a black car with one of its front wheels missing following the horror smash.

The front of the car was completely destroyed after it appeared to have slammed into a white Hyandai Kona.

The 11-year-old schoolgirl was treated at the scene before she was taken to hospital in an ambulance.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it was called at 3.05pm to reports of a collision between two cars and a pedestrian.

A spokesman said: ‘We sent three ambulances, two paramedic officers and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Staffordshire to the scene.

‘On arrival we discovered a girl, who was the pedestrian, who had suffered serious injuries in the collision.

‘Following treatment on scene, she was transported to Birmingham Children’s Hospital by land ambulance.’

The service revealed treatment was continued on the way to the hospital, while the two male drivers of the cars were treated for non-serious injuries.

The motorists were taken to Good Hope Hospital for further assessment.
