A film fanatic father-of-one has showcased his impressive ‘£400,000’ collection of iconic cars from movies and TV shows including Ghostbusters, Starsky and Hutch, Knight Rider – and the Reliant Regal van from Only Fools and Horses.

Posing with a selection of his eight-car motorcade, online retailer Peter Dale revealed he owns a 1962 Cadillac from Grease, a Chevrolet Nova from the movie Deathproof, and a Ford Gran Torino from US buddy cop hit Starsky and Hutch.

The 42-year-old from Moss Side, Manchester, also has three of the yellow three-wheeled vans from BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses – and one of them was even driven by Sir David Jason for Channel 4’s Great British Inventions.

Rather than letting them rust, Mr Dale often takes the cars out for a spin to his local supermarket – turning heads as he trundles along in his Ghostbusters-themed Ectomobile.

Buying battered cars for £10,000, he painstakingly restores the vehicles and increases their value ‘five-fold’. He believes the collection could now be worth as much as £400,000.

‘I may buy a car for £10,000 but then the value increases to £50,000 after working on it,’ Mr Dale claimed. It is hard to know the exact value as I don’t value my own time. But I have seen an Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters sell for £200,000.’

The Only Fools and Horses super fan said that the iconic yellow vans are available to hire out, adding: ‘I have always loved the programme and it is the reason I went self-employed.

‘A Reliant Regal was the first car I purchased in 2016 for £6,000 on eBay. The collection just grew from there.

‘Initially, I didn’t want to rent the cars out, but Channel 4 got in touch for David Jason’s Great British Inventions. It was amazing to meet him – he was very pleasant. I haven’t hired that one out since but there are two more available.’

Mr Dale is often turning heads in his hometown as he alternates between the iconic vehicles to complete his food shopping.

‘I can’t just leave the cars locked up in the warehouse all of the time so I do drive them around,’ he said. ‘People are often shocked and taking photos. The Ghostbuster car in particular gets the most attention. I definitely have to keep my whites about me when driving as people film whilst driving so I need to make sure we don’t crash!’.

Mr Dale is currently working on Back to the Future’s Delorean, an A-Team van, a Batmobile and more.

He added: ‘I believe there are only two Pontiac national ambulances left in the world and I am restoring on one of them.

‘I am also building a rare convertible three wheeled reliant regal and a Smokey and the Bandit firebird car.’
