Woman bound, gagged and tortured man by threatening to set him alight and making him bark like a dog in extortion attempt after luring him to Geelong home via a dating app

  • Sarah Stanford, 23, lured man after Skout match, demanded drugs and fast food
  • Assaulted, threatened him when he arrived at her Geelong home minus the food
  • She pleaded guilty to charges of extortion, robbery, assault, false imprisonment

A terrified man was tied to a chair, injected with a substance, forced to make animal noises, punched and threatened with being shot if he didn’t pay money during an ordeal that began as an online hook-up.

Sarah Stanford coaxed the unnamed man to her Geelong home, and demanded he bring the drug ice and ‘Hungry Jacks’ before the violent extortion attempt on Friday, September 27, 2019.

Stanford, whose ex-girlfriend was present during the 90-minute ordeal, which a Geelong judge described as ‘the ultimate terror’, became abusive when the man arrived without the junk food.

The man, aged 46, met Stanford, a 23 year-old mum, on the dating app Skout after allegedly offering ice to her.

But on arrival without the Hungry Jacks, Stanford allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened to ‘slice’ him if he didn’t do what she ordered.

An enraged Stanford bound the man to a chair using rope, duct tape and cable ties and demanded his wallet, cards and his weekly wages as she assaulted and threatened him.

She tried to take $10,000 from his online bank account and also demanded he pay her a fee every Wednesday when he received his wages.

She repeatedly punched and hit him, threatened to shoot and stab him, poured an unknown liquid on his shirt and set it alight.

Stanford also bizarrely forced him to bark like a dog and also meow like a cat.

‘In my 20-odd-years, I don’t think I’ve seen something as bizarre, and in some places scary as this,’ Judge Geoffrey Chettle told Geelong County Court.

She also injected him with an unknown substance, threatening to ‘turn him into a junkie’.

He told the court the contents of the syringe made him feel ‘relaxed and gluggy’.

Towards the end of the ordeal she cut him free and told him he had ‘two seconds to run… or I will f***ing stab you’.

He rushed to a friend’s house and reported the incident to police the next day.

Stanford and her ex-girlfriend were arrested on the Sunday, two days later, and appeared in Geelong Magistrates Court on the Monday.

Stanford appeared by videolink from the maximum security Dame Phyllis Frost Centre and was charged with extortion, robbery, common assault and false imprisonment. She pleaded guilty.

She is due to be sentenced on January 28.

The court heard the victim’s life was ‘changed forever’ by the assault.

‘When I leave my home, I’m in fear and constantly looking over my shoulder,’ his victim impact statement said, which was read in court by prosecutor Andrew Moore.

Charges against Stanford’s ex-girlfriend, aged 43, were dropped.
