Give us state police, PDP governors ask FG 2

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have renewed call for state policing.

The governors lamented that the Federal Government, which has the responsibility to protect life and property, has become overwhelmed and incapacitated.

This was disclosed at the second anniversary of the murder of a PDP woman leader, Salome Acheju Abuh, who was murdered two years ago in Kogi State.
The governors, who were represented by Director General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Cyril Maduabum, alleged there is no serious response by the government in power to tackle impunity.

“Impunity has led to massive bloodshed on daily basis in Nigeria. People are killed wantonly. People are killed whimsically. Impunity leads to all sorts of things,” they said.

The governors donated N10 million to the family of the deceased, saying: “Her blood cries to heaven for vengeance because the mastermind has not been brought to book. Those who promoted the atmosphere of violence, those who think that they are God on earth and can do anything they like and get away with it have not been brought to book. And that is why the country is where it is today.”

They said further: “The security architecture is such that governors are powerless to act. As a governor, you cannot command a DPO. They will tell you they have to talk to their Commissioners of Police. If you talk to the Commissioner of Police, he will tell you that he will get permission from the Inspector General. From there, they will say they will get permission from the Minister of Police Affairs or the President. Before you finish, crimes have already been committed.”
