Ex-Boko Haram members will never repent!” Stop Reintegrating them into the Society – Senator Ali Ndume warns Buhari!

Senator Ali Ndume representing Borno South Senatorial District has warned the President Buhari-led government to stop the reintegration of former Boko Haram members who surrendered to the army back into the society.

The Senator said this in reaction to the over 600 ex-terrorists who recently completed the Deradicalisation, Rehabilitation and Reintegration programme (DRR) in Gombe.

The DRR programme was launched by the Nigerian Army in 2016 to give terrorists who surrendered willingly to the Army a second chance at life which will usher them back into their respective communities at the end of the programme.

However, Senator Ali Ndume believes the programme should be out on hold as he believes the former fighters will never repent. Instead, he urged the Federal Government to train people at various IDP camps with skills that will help them start life afresh.

While speaking to BBC Hausa service, he said;

“This government’s programme is unacceptable to our people. The right thing is to stop it, forthwith

Not that they even apologised to you, they apologised to the government with the thinking that government has failed and that is why they are being pampered.”

They are like Kharajites. Many among those released have since run away. They will never repent.”

“The government should know what to do about them. But not re-introducing someone to you, who has killed your parent, or your relations.”

“If there is sincerity of purpose in this, those in the IDP camps should be trained in various trades and vocation so that they could start life again.”
