I have President Buhari’s approval to commence 774,000 job recruitment! – Festus Keyamo declares!
One week after the disagreement between him and the National Assembly joint Committee on Labour the 774,000 job recruitment process, Festus Keyamo says he has the President’s backing.
The Minister for Labour, Festus Keyamo (SAN) said that President Buhari has given him the mandate to begin the recruitment process of 774,000 youths under the Special Public Works Programme.
Keyamo told a PUNCH News correspondent via text message;
” “I have the instructions of my boss, Mr President, to proceed with the supervision of the preparation for the execution of the programme in accordance with the law.”
The joint committee had earlier accused Keyamo of hijacking the recruitment process from the implementing body i.e National Directorate of Employment.
The Minister also accused them of attempting to have orders and to thereby taking control of the process. This led to a disagreement between the two parties as Keyamo was walked out of the meeting.
He stated that the National Assembly has no provision in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to give instructions to the Executive as regards the recruitment process.
He stated that;
” “I only insisted on the provision of the constitution; I insist that they have no power under section 88 of the 1999 constitution. Their powers under section 88 of the 1999 Constitution is only limited to investigations, but not to give any directive to the executive.”
