Nigeria is in trouble because..." - Former Gov Peter Obi reveals reason why insecurity is on the rise 2

Former Anambra State Governor and Vice Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi has his views known as regards why Nigeria is not growing economically especially with regards to the recent wave of kidnappings in the country.

Peter Obi decried how the government is rewarding criminality in the country at the expense of the country’s economy as well as intellectuals contributing knowledge in their respective fields.

He notes that the state of the country is what it is today because othe government is now rewarding thuggery, allegedly paying ransom to bandits who kidnap school kids.

Peter Obi noted that the country must walk away from such the  act of making criminality lucrative.

The Nation reports that Peter Obi made these comments at the launch of a nook titled; Communication and Media Studies: Multiple Perspectives, by Nigeria’s first female Professor, Stella Okunna.

You can’t pay people for banditry. The only businesses that thrive in Nigeria are stealing government’s money, banditry and kidnapping. And that’s why your country is not progressing.

How do we go and negotiate and pay somebody, a bandit, when we have not paid those who’re working?

We are owing those who have legitimately worked. And we are negotiating and paying those who have stolen kids. It is a criminal system. It is important we walk away from it.

Lecturers are owed. How do we compensate those who have not contributed anything to the economy? The economy is not productive, and that’s why it is failing.

We have Prof. Okunna and her team doing research and writing books. Believe it or not, Prof. Okunna earns less money than a political thug. That’s why the country is collapsing.
