Jamie Laing reveals romance happens on Strictly because partners ‘build forever lasting bonds’ and he can ‘easily see why it happens’ – amid reports AJ Odudu is ‘falling’ for Kai Widdrington.

The former Strictly finalist, 32, who was paired with Karen Hauer, 39, last year, said competing as a team means ‘you never want to let the other person down’ and partnerships quickly establish ‘trust and loyalty,’ which are key to any relationship.

In an exclusive interview, Jamie, who’s the host of new BBC Three series I Like The Way U Move, admitted pro dancer Karen sees him as her ‘weird younger brother’ but if she was ever in trouble he would be there.

He told MailOnline: ‘Strictly Come Dancing – people are obsessed with this whole infatuation around hooking up and dancing.

‘The reason why dance brings you so close together is you have to immediately get over the awkward stage. You have to get over that straightaway so it fast-forwards a relationship.

‘Relationships are all about trust and loyalty and when you’re dancing with someone it is about the same things – you can’t let each other down.

‘You’re such a team; you never want to let the other person down. You fall into the romantic side of things because that’s what relationships are all about. You build a bond with whoever your partner is that is forever lasting. I can easily see why it happens.’

Jamie joked: ‘I haven’t told anyone this but Karen tried a lot… no, she didn’t once. She saw me as her weird younger brother. If Karen was ever in trouble I would be there 100 per cent.’

Jamie’s comments come as Kai was overheard confessing his love for AJ following their intimate performance on Saturday night amid speculation the pair have grown close off the dance floor.

It was competing on Strictly last year that led Jamie to make his presenting debut on new BBC Three series I Like The Way U Move, which sees professional dancers teach amateurs to perform while dating them.

The former Made In Chelsea star teased there will be romance and even some sexy bedroom antics from the cast, who lived together at a luxury home in Henley for six weeks during filming.

Jamie said: ‘When you put sexy, young singles in a house together for six weeks, you can expect there to be some sort of romance… otherwise there wouldn’t be a show! Yeah, they all played backgammon for six weeks…

‘All I can say is there is real romance. It’s not forced or fake, it’s not pre thought about like a lot of other reality shows, and it’s completely real and authentic.

‘These people genuinely fall in love. As a host and a judge my heart melted because you’ll see how much these people love each other.’

Stars of the show including trained dancer Charlotte Dickinson, 24, will be tasked with impressing Jamie, as well choreographer KK Harris, and a series of guest judges such as Strictly’s Oti Mabuse and Radio 1 DJ Clara Amfo.

Jamie insists relationships formed on the series, which is available to watch in full on BBC iPlayer from Sunday, are genuine, as he lays into reality shows like Love Island that have been accused of manipulating storylines.

He said: ‘A lot of shows out there you question the authenticity of relationships, well I do. I like dating shows, which are real and what’s happened is shows in recent times have gone down the road of producing.

‘People get formats and that’s great, but they try and make the format better and better and change it so it’s no longer authentic… the thing I love about the BBC is they take an approach where what happens, happens.

‘They have the producers there but they’re not interfering, everything is real and authentic.

‘Of course, you want people to fall in love and you have an idea of what you want but you’re not going to tell them. Everything that happens is totally real.’

Jamie quit Made In Chelsea earlier this year following a decade on the E4 reality series.

The Candy Kittens entrepreneur, who’s in a relationship with former co-star Sophie Habboo, admits no one believed he would one day achieve his dream of presenting a TV show.

He said: ‘I have always wanted to host a show. When I started doing Made In Chelsea I kept saying this is what I want to do and people would laugh and say, ‘sure buddy’ and so then for the BBC to give me the chance to do this show, I’m so thankful they have taken a risk by going for someone like me.

‘I was incredibly nervous; it’s a huge show and I want it to do so well. I know how amazing it can be and I don’t want to be the person to mess it up for everyone.’
