An aircraft owned by the Nigerian Military has crashed near the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport with reports that there were no survivors.
According to an eye-witness report, the pilot diverted the Military Aircraft close to the Abuja Airport to prevent it from crashing into residential buildings.
The Military Aircraft was due to land in Minna but it reported engine failure before crashing according to reports. Pictures that were taken immediately after the crash showed that the plane went ablaze.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika also confirmed the incident in a statement via his Twitter page
A military aircraft King Air 350 has just crashed short of our Abuja runway after reporting engine failure en route to Minna. It appears to be fatal. We should remain calm & wait for the outcome of an investigation by the military, while we pray for the departed soul/souls if any
