Married At First Sight’s Davina Rankin has shared an update about her battle with extreme gastro. 

The 29-year-old has spent the past four days recovering from the unpleasant illness in hospital, telling fans on Monday that it was the ‘worst gastro she’s ever had in her life’. 

She returned to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, uploading a photo of herself giving the thumbs up and smiling while lying in her hospital bed.

‘Just managed to eat a piece of dry toast and not have severe tummy pains (so far). First proper food since Friday,’ she captioned the photo. 

‘I think today is the day I’m finally starting to get on the mend [praise hands emoji]. I’ve literally lost 3kg over the past 4 days [mind blown emoji]’, she continued. 

Davina went on describe the painful symptoms she experienced during her gastro battle.

‘It was so horrendous, it was like I was having non stop labour contractions for days and nothing could help… pain killers made it much worse because I had nothing left in my stomach [upset emoji],’ she lamented. 

In a subsequent Instagram Story post, the brunette declared that she’d been ‘scarred’ by the experience, and will never take her health for granted again. 

‘Honestly being this sick has made my appreciate my health SO much more than I already do [praying hands emoji]. Never taking feeling amazing for granted ever again!’ she wrote.

‘I’m so scarred from the last few days that I’m even terrified to drink alcohol or eat anything that isn’t fresh, organic, raw [laughing emoji]’, she added. 

Gastroenteritis, commonly shortened to ‘gastro’, is an intestinal infection with symptoms including diarrhoea, cramps, nausea, vomiting and fever. 

A day earlier, Davina had shocked fans by uploading a photo to Instagram of herself lying in a hospital bed while hooked up to an IV drip.

Davina’s health battle comes just weeks after the mother of one spent time in hospital recovering from breast implant removal surgery.

Breast implant illness refers to a wide range of symptoms that can develop after undergoing reconstruction or cosmetic augmentation with implants.

Speaking to fans earlier this month about her recovery, Davina said her health had markedly improved in the days since her implants were removed.

‘Mentally I just feel extremely clear. It’s really hard to explain. I also feel way less anxious about everything,’ she said.

Davina added she was able to breathe more deeply after her implants were removed.

She was featured on season five of Married at First Sight in 2018, and infamously ‘cheated’ on her partner Ryan Gallagher with Dean Wells.
