Reese Witherspoon and Matthew McConaughey dropped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about their animated flick Sing 2, which hits theaters on December 22.

And during a rapid Q&A segment with Ellen, the 52-year-old actor revealed that Reese was one of his first celebrity crushes.

‘I had a bit of a crush on the young lady sitting to the left of me,’ Matthew said while gesturing his head towards Reese, 45, who was clearly shocked by the admission.

He explained that the crush was formed when he caught Witherspoon in her very first film Man In The Moon.

The coming of age drama hit theaters in 1991 and featured a then 14-year-old Reese in the lead role.

‘What?!’ exclaimed the Legally Blonde star.

‘[Reese] was one of my early, early crushes and if you’ve seen the movie it’s inevitable not to have a crush on [her],’ explained Matthew, before Ellen put a picture of Reese in the film on the screen behind them.

‘Aw, you’re so sweet!’ said Reese, with Matthew assuring her that it’s a ‘true story.’

Unfortunately for the How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days star, Reese did not cite him as her first celebrity crush. Instead, she recalled being head-over-heels for Val Kilmer’s Jim Morrison in the 1991 biopic The Doors.

Earlier in the interview, Matthew and Reese called to viewers’ attention that, despite starring in the three films together over the span of their years-long friendship, they’ve never appeared in the same scene.

The Academy Award-winners famously starred opposite one another in the 2014 indie drama Mud and have rounded out the star-studded voiceover cast of Illumination Entertainment’s Sing franchise which kicked off in 2016.

Ellen brought up the subject, with Matthew admitting that he and Reese ‘were just talking about that’ and that it’s incredible that they’ve yet to appear ‘in the same frame.’

‘I think people wanna see us in a real movie together,’ Reese interjected which earned affirmative cheers from the in-studio audience.

McConaughey went on to explain how the way Mud was shot kept their characters away from one another, while their voiceover work for Sing is a completely isolated job.

‘It’d be fun to do it when we are in the same frame. I mean [in Mud] I was across the street in the end of the movie and we never really got to see each other.

‘And in [Sing 2] we’re in different booths wherever we are in the world. This [on the Ellen Show] is us saying ‘hello’ for the first time,’ he revealed.

Further elaborating on all that goes in to bringing characters to live in an animated movie, Matthew acknowledged that many ‘people think that [the cast record their parts] together and that we’ve got stories from the last two years of making this film, but no.

‘This is the first time I’ve seen Reese in two years… or any rest of the cast.’

Clearly happy to be reunited, the duo took a moment to recall the first time they met and how their friendship has flourished over the past decade-and-a-half.

Reese revealed that she actually met Matthew for the first time at an Oscar’s afterparty in 2006, where she won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role as June Carter in Walk The line.

‘But then we got to know each other much later, and we know each other pretty well,’ Matthew explained.

Reese added that they’ve since ‘got to know each other’s kids and wives, husbands’ and that it’s been a ‘delight.’

Ellen then asked about McConaughey attending the Legally Blonde actress’ 2011 wedding to all-star talent agent Jim Toth, who was the Fool’s Gold actor’s longtime agent.

Reese said that Matthew’s presence at the wedding and his treatment of the older ladies in attendance only further solidified her deep respect and love for him.

‘The day that he stole my heart and everyone’s heart, basically, in my personal life was when he danced with every woman that was over the age of 65 at my wedding,’ she gushed, adding: ‘That’s who this person is.’

She specifically remembered Matthew sharing a dance with her mother Betty who was absolutely impressed by how much of a gentleman he was.

‘I mean my mother might’ve died. She might’ve died. She was like, “Oh my God!” she recalled.

‘We broke a sweat on the dance floor,’ Matthew joked, before Reese admitted that, despite it being her big day, he totally ‘won the wedding.’

Reese and Jim, 51, are still very much together and share a nine-year-old son named Tennessee. The Fear actress also shares two older children, daughter Ava, 22, and son Deacon, 18, with ex husband Ryan Phillippe.

Matthew got hitched back in 2012 to his longtime partner and model Camila Alves, 39. The loved up pair have welcomed sons Levi, 13, Livingston, eight, and daughter Vida, 11, over the span of their nearly decade-long marriage.

With his eldest only having recently become a teenager, veteran mom Reese was eager to know about whether or not Matthew has had ‘the talk’ with Levi.

‘Not yet! I’ve thrown out little innuendo out there to see if it’s time to have that talk and it’s gone right over him. So, I don’t need to talk yet,’ he confirmed.

Ellen was curious as to how Matthew goes about ‘testing’ his son to see if he’s ready for the often awkward, yet necessary conversation.

The star explained that he often checks in with Levi after he’s come home from a hangout with friends to see if it was ‘on a friendly basis or you know.’

He continued: ‘You can tell if they’re trying to cover, they get a little embarrassed and you go, “Ah! Maybe it is time to have The Talk because why would you be embarrassed?”‘

‘The door is locked too long…y’all know what I mean,’ Reese joked, which earned instant laughter from Matthew.

‘Oh, I was gonna add something on to that but it would be R-rated. Oh yeah, the locked door. The locked bathroom door,’ he continued with a chuckle.

Known for his ‘bedtime stories’ videos and epic voice, Ellen proposed that McConaughey should film himself doing ‘the talk’ for parents to use when it comes time to sit down with their own children.

‘Everybody wants to hear your talk. I think you should do the talk for everybody. You should BE the talk. And someone just plays it for their son or daughter,’ she explained.

McConaughey, though flattered by the idea, noted that ‘there are a lot of “talks”’ to be had and that he doesn’t always have the best answers when his kids come to him with an important question.

‘When our kids ask us a question and you know, as a parent that I better have a d**n good answer for this because this is gonna write in their bones how they see the world moving forward.

‘And sometimes I’ve hit those talks about of the park and sometimes I’ve hit C+’s.’ he humbly admitted.

With his dad persona proving to be a fun topic of conversation, Ellen felt compelled to ask Matthew about his reliance on FaceTime and how he often calls people ‘without warning.’

‘See this is interesting, somebody just brought this up to me the other day,’ he began.

‘So, what am I missing? I didn’t know that you need to sort of contextualize and be like, ‘Hey! I’m gonna call you but it’s not gonna be a FaceTime.” I thought if you’re calling then why not FaceTime each other so I can see you.’

Although it makes sense in his own head, Matthew did admit that he’s received some shocked reactions to his FaceTime requests in the past.

‘I have seen people go, ‘Oh! I didn’t know you were gonna FaceTime me.” You can hang up and call me back, I was just FaceTiming because I thought it would be cooler,’ he explained.

‘But what if they’re on the toilet or something?’ asked Reese, to which Matthew replied: ‘Don’t answer! I didn’t know it was intrusive. I cold FaceTime people!’

Despite having a FaceTime reputation, the Walk The Line actress revealed that Matthew has never tried to video chat with her but often uses the feature to speak to her husband Jim.
