History was made yesterday as Nigeria received its biggest-ever container vessel as the Maerskline Starderlhorn vessel docked at the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne Port at about 4:20 pm local time.

The Onne Port is one of the major ports in the country for oil and gas exploration and it’s believed that the arrival of this vessel will ease the burden on the Apapa port and it will also boost economic activities in the region.

If Onne port can receive the biggest vessel to land on the Nigerian space, then that is good news for the Apapa port because it is a sign of decongestion for Lagos state. All the fuel for the South South can go to Onne port. Great initiative NPA!

If Onne Port can berth the "biggest container vessel to ever call at any Nigerian port", why are importers in the East being forced to use Lagos Ports?
Answer: Deliberate govt policies (excessive levies & duties) aimed at discouraging importers from using Eastern Ports. https://t.co/ogdvH5PEU0

My last shipment was received at Onne. I choose my port of discharge, I can't stand the Lagos Wahala, bad road. Area Boys, all manners of levy, taxes, Omo n'ile and cost of transportation again down south? No way.

Really hope a critical mass of shippers start to select Onne as a destination so that more shipping lines can move there. Most shipping lines are just looking for the easiest place to dump their cargo. Onne just needs to crack volumes + supporting infrastructure.

Madam you are very wrong on this one. If you don't know what's happening at onne kindly don't speak. They clear everything in onne for crying out. WACT terminals operates 24hrs even with the total lockdown in the nation. MSKLINE is not stupid to berth at that port
