Nigerian entertainers, entrepreneurs enrich American lives! - US Secretary of State 2

Nigerian musicians, athletes, and entrepreneurs, among others, enrich the lives of Americans, according to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Mr. Blinken addressed the press in the company of Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffery Onyeama during his visit to Nigeria, after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. He spoke about Nigeria and America’s shared values and challenges, and how the two countries are working together to address them.

Nigeria is significant to the United States, according to Mr. Blinken, particularly because of its diaspora’s impact on the American population.

Nigeria touches us every day in America through the amazing power of its diaspora. Musicians, writers, artists, entrepreneurs, athletes enrich our lives, make them more interesting, more rewarding, and we’re grateful for that as well,” Mr Blinken said.

Nigerians are widely regarded as the best educated black population in the United States, with members of the community serving as heads of government agencies and board members.

More than four Nigerians have recently been selected to various positions in President Joe Biden’s cabinet, demonstrating that Nigerians outside the country are capable of world-class performance.

Apart from schooling, Nigeria’s afrobeat is exported to the rest of the globe in the form of music, with its artists selling out concert halls and winning international prizes such as the Grammys.
