A Sharia Court sitting in Kano State has sentenced a 22-year-old man, Yahaya Sharif to death by hanging for blaspheming against Prophet Mohammed in a song that went viral on WhatsApp in March 2020.

The Judge, Aliyu Kani gave the verdict on today after he found Yahaya guilty of blasphemy as charged.

An angry mob had earlier burnt down Yahaya’s family house immediately rf ge video surfaced and they also went on a protest to Hisbah; a State-owned security outfit and the custodian of Sharia laws in the state.

Aminu Sharrif, his father publicly diswoned him stating that he does not share his son’s religious views and he does not whereabouts before he was eventually arrested.

“I want to categorically inform the general public that blasphemy is not my ideology, and I promise to arrest him (my son) and hand him over to security agents whenever he is found.”

“If I had the authority to punish him by law, I will do that right away”
