Nigeria’s Court of Appeal in Abuja on Friday 4th December has affirmed the death sentence slammed on Maryam Sanda who was sentenced to death for killing her husband, Biliyaminu Bello in November 2017.
The deceased is a relative of former chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, Haliru Bello.
Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal High Court in Maitama in his ruling on the 17th of January posited that circumstantial evidence proved that Maryam Sanda “fatal” stabbed her husband to death.
Nevertheless, she contested that the judgement delivered on her was tinted with bias and intolerances which resulted in her being denied of a fair hearing.
Marian Sanda, a mother of two went on to file a 20-ground notice of appeal with the hope of getting an order to discharge and acquit her of the judgement.
A three-man panel of the Appeal Court, in a judgment, dismissed Sandra’s appeal for lacking in merit.
