Police believe five to seven shots were fired, and they have recovered four shell casings so far.

The motive of the shooting remains unclear, but Chief Prine said police do not believe the general public is in immediate danger.

Play was suspended with unbeaten Vigor up 28-12 at the time of the shooting. The game’s conclusion to likely be played Monday at an as yet undetermined location.

‘We’ve got to be an example and change these kid’s lives that many are out here raising themselves,’ he added.

It is not the first shooting to rock Ladd-Peebles Stadium during a game.

In August 2019, a 17-year-old student opened fire at the stadium and wounded nine people.

The victims’ ages in that shooting ranged from 15 to 47, according to authorities.

Deangelo Parnell, now 19, was charged with nine counts of attempted murder.

He has pleaded not guilty, and was this year denied youthful offender status by a judge.

The incident prompted the Mobile County Public School System to tighten security at its football games.
