Peter Andre revealed the reason why he decided to gain three stone in his thirties and ditch his six pack after his Mysterious Girl hit. 

Appearing on Loose Women on Wednesday, the singer, 48, said he found himself getting sick a lot of the time due to his restrictive diet and intense training regime in order to keep his famed muscular physique.

Peter ended up going the ‘opposite way’ after finding the lifestyle too hard to maintain and went from exercising every day to not training and eating anything in sight.

He said: ‘It’s really weird. At that period of time, I felt great.

‘I mean I was watching everything I ate, I was doing everything that you’re told you’re supposed to do by cutting out fats and being really strict.

‘I was having raw eggs in the morning, protein shakes, training very hard, but I felt great.

‘I remember getting colds all the time and my brothers going, “Mate, you’re sick again, you’re sick again.” And that’s probably because there wasn’t a lot of body fat.’

Pete said as he entered his thirties he ‘stepped away from the image’ and went from restrictive eating to binge eating.

He recalled: ‘I ate everything, I didn’t care, I didn’t train and I put on three stone. It’s the only time in my life that I put on three stone.

‘And then I thought “ok, there’s gotta be a middle ground here”.’

The hitmaker said he has now found the right balance in his forties. 

He said: ‘I found a way to be able to sort of eat what I want to eat, keep active, but not restrict anything.

‘I treat myself every day. I don’t do the whole watch what I eat all week and then on Saturday I binge eat – I have what I want.

‘But I counter it by balancing it with healthy food and balancing it with exercise, but also eating my pizzas, eating my McDonald’s when I want, eating my chocolates. I think there’s a balance, definitely. And I feel so much better now.’ 

Pete added: ‘I’m going to be 49 next month and I feel good. I’m not saying I look amazing but I feel good.’

Elsewhere in the interview, the I’m A Celebrity star spoke with pride about his son Junior, 16, signing a record deal. 

He said: ‘I’m so proud of him. I wouldn’t let him sign his deal until he was 16 which was exactly the same age as me.

‘He signed to Columbia records. He works so hard.’
