The four young children killed in a tragic house fire have been pictured for the first time as shocked neighbours recall the grieving father’s heartbreak.

Masira Osman, 10, three-year-old brother Nadar and sisters Isan, 6 and Ileen, 1, all died after their Werribbe home in Melbourne’s south-west burst into flames just after 1am on Sunday.

Najm Osman, 45, his 38-year-old wife Khadjah, and eight-year-old son Ibrahim managed to escape the blaze with non-life threatening injuries.

Photos of each of the four victims has since been released along with a happy snap of Mr Osman pictured posing with his five children, including his surviving son.

Neighbours woke to Najm screaming ‘save my children’  and begging for help as firefighters battled to control the blaze.

‘He banged on our door … (and said) to my husband, ‘my kids are dead, my kids are dead,’ ‘ next door neighbour Geeta Deagan told the Herald Sun.

Neighbours added said the children’s mother Khadjah was just as distraught.

‘[She] came to me and said, ‘they are not going to come back … my four kids died, I’m not a good mum, I’m not a good mum,’ ‘ Ms Deagan said.

‘I just gave her a hug… there was nothing she could do.’

Shattered locals continue to place flowers and teddy bear tributes outside the gutted home which remains cordoned off.

The family immigrated from Sudan in the early 2000s and are well regarded in local community.

Mr Osman’s sister said the deaths of her nieces and nephews ‘has broken my heart’.

‘I’m destroyed at the moment. We don’t know what happened,’ she told the publication.

‘We are Muslim and we believe in God. We know everything is written. But this is too hard to take.’

Victoria Police confirmed the four deaths in a press conference.

‘Unfortunately, a 10-year-old and three old boy, and a six and 1-year-old girl were found deceased inside the premises,’ Detective Senior Sergeant Ashley Ryan said on Sunday.

‘It is a terrible set of circumstances and one that is very difficult for members of the family and our hearts go out to the family and to the community this morning.’

The father suffered smoke-related serious injuries while the mother is being treated for smoke inhalation. The boy had minor injuries.

One firefighter was also taken to hospital to be assessed for smoke inhalation, but is reportedly fine.

The house was completely destroyed by the inferno, with rescue efforts hindered after the roof collapsed during the blaze.

Security footage from a nearby home shows neighbours rushing into the street to help as smoke billowed into the air.

Neighbours said there were phone delays getting through to emergency services and they waited 15 minutes before a 000 operator answered.

‘I thought the sun was out, that was how bright it was,’ one neighbour told 9News.

‘When I went in to take a good look, the whole house was on fire.’

About 30 firefighters were called to the home to bring the fire under control.

CFA District 14 Commander David Clancy said the home was already completely alight when emergency teams arrived on the scene.

‘The firefighters had a fairly arduous task to conduct the firefight… they were unable to conduct an internal attack due to the heat from the fire,’ he said.

Mr Clancy said the fire was finally brought under control about 2am, with the damage making it unsafe for firefighters to enter the home.

‘It’s certainly up there with some of the tragedies I’ve seen… this in particular is a very tragic circumstance with four young children who have perished in the fire,’ he said.
