Channel Nine sports presenter Cameron Williams announced his ‘resignation’ from the network earlier this week.

And now there are new reports that his exit was sparked by a clash with a Nine News executive.

According to the Daily Telegraph, there was a ‘heated and angry exchange’ between Williams and Sydney news director Simon Hobbs.

The publication claims that Williams aired out his ‘frustrations’ on working at the newsroom to Hobbs, which ultimately led to his departure.

However, Nine has denied the report and is sticking by their official statement that Williams left the network to ‘pursue other opportunities’ and focus on his health.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Channel Nine for comment.

The 59-year-old had recently signed a three-year deal with Nine, but mysteriously disappeared from the air almost four weeks ago.

Cameron said he was leaving the role due to ‘increasingly poor health’.

Cameron sent an email to staff on Wednesday announcing his departure, The Daily Telegraph reported.

‘It’s with a heavy heart I have decided to resign from Nine. Leaving the best team in News is difficult and being part of that team an honour,’ he wrote.

Nine’s director of news Darren Wick also emailed staff informing them of Cameron’s departure.

Williams joined Channel Nine as a sports presenter back in 2010, one year after landing a role as host of Weekend Today alongside Leila McKinnon.

In February 2016, he announced his resignation from the Nine Network.
