The pair were celebrating the release of their new Sky Atlantic and HBO TV adaptation, The Time Traveler’s Wife, at the event – which showcased the TV giant’s upcoming movies and TV shows.

But despite the actors seemingly in high spirits, the same couldn’t be said for viewers of the six-part series- who slammed the show and said that the plot ‘condoned child grooming’.

In the drama penned by American author Audrey Niffenegger, Henry and Claire meet as adults, but it turns out he can time travel, and has been visiting her since she was six-years-old, leading the pair to become ‘friends’ and then to fall in love.

However, Time magazine called the show a ‘multiverse of badness,’ with reviewer Judi Berman writing: ‘I would like to travel back to the time before I decided to watch all six episodes of this show.’

Viewers were equally disturbed by the plot point, with some calling it ‘wrong,’ ‘creepy’ and ‘uncomfortable.’

Uncomfortable: Some viewers said the fact Henry and Clare once meet when she is six and he is 31 was ‘creepy’ and ‘grooming’

While Henry’s perspective is that he meets Clare for the first time when she is in her twenties when he’s seven years older than her, the time travelling nature means that her perspective shows them meeting for the first time when he is 31 and she is six.

During the latter encounter, he appears naked in front of his future wife, who is then a child, and asked her to give him clothes.

Some viewers were left unimpressed with the subject matter, saying they felt ‘uncomfortable’.
