See Reactions As Former Pension Boss, Abdulrasheeed Maina Bags 61 Years Jail Term.

Abdulrasheed Maina, a former Nigerian pension management officer, was sentenced to 61 years in prison by the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Monday after being found guilty of money laundering and racketeering.

However, Mr. Maina will serve only eight years in prison because Justice Okon Abang has ordered that the sentences run concurrently.

Abdulrasheed Maina allegedly bribed bankers at Fidelity Bank to compromise due diligence in the handling of large transactions, according to Mr. Abang.

He was found guilty of depositing up to N2.3 billion unlawfully in three installments, in violation of existing money laundering legislation.

The ruling is a big success for the EFCC’s anti-corruption unit, which has been pursuing the case for eight years.

Another Northerner jailed, as Justice Okon Abang of FHC Abuja, sentenced former chairman of defunct Pension Reforms Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina to 61 years’ imprisonment.
The court held that Maina stole monies meant for pensioners as he could not prove where he got same from.
