A teenager has died in an alleged ‘hit and run’ accident following reports of the car involved travelling at ‘100mph’ on a Derbyshire road.

Keeley Birks, 17,  has been named by officers as the teenager who was involved in a fatal collision with a Vauxhall Astra at around 8pm on Saturday evening.

Officers were called to Harvey Road in Allenton, Derby just before 9pm yesterday following a ‘hit and run’ accident after Ms Birks was allegedly hit at ‘100mph’.

Police have confirmed that they have recovered the vehicle that is believed to be involved in the collision but their investigation is ongoing.

Witnesses described seeing paramedics administering CPR to the teenager and a corden being set up yesterday evening. 

Residents also reported seeing a police helicopter searching the area till late last night but it is not yet known if any arrests have been made.

Officers are urging any witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage to come forward to aid their investigation.

Derbyshire police issued the statement: ‘A teenaged girl who died in a collision in Harvey Road last night has been named as Keeley Birks.

‘The 17-year-old was involved in a collision with a Vauxhall Astra at about 8pm and sadly died a short time later.

‘Her family and friends are being given specialist support by our officers.

‘Our investigation into the circumstances is ongoing but we can confirm that we have recovered the vehicle believed to be involved.

‘We would like to ask for the public’s patience while we work to trace those involved, and urge people not to speculate on social media.

‘Residents in the area around the collision site are likely to see an increased police presence throughout today as officers continue their enquiries.

‘Detectives from the force’s specialist collision investigation unit are now wanting to hear from any witnesses who may be able to assist them – in particular any drivers with dashcam footage that may hold vital evidence.
