Matt Doran boasted he was a ‘monstrous fan’ of Adele on Sunday’s The Morning Show – the same day reports claimed the singer had ‘walked out’ of an interview with him two weeks prior after he admitted he hadn’t heard her new album.

During the episode, Doran’s Channel Seven co-host Kylie Gillies was discussing a segment about the singing superstar’s age, telling viewers: ‘With [the new album] being called 30, we’ve been asking in droves – how old is Adele?

‘It’s only right we should ask Australia’s biggest Adele fan Matt Doran…’

Without hesitation, Matt responded: ‘Í am a monstrous fan, Kylie.’

He then went on to detail some information about Adele’s back catalogue of albums, adding: ‘…And this album follows other numerically titled albums.

‘Her debut was 19, then came 21, and then 25 – all reflecting the age she was when Adele wrote them. 30 was mostly written when she was 30 years old.’

Following a dramatic drum roll, Matt announced: ‘Today, on launch date, Adele is 33 years, 28 weeks and two days.’

No mention was made of the apparent car crash interview, which The Daily Telegraph reported had taken place on November 4.

Doran flew thousands of miles to London to chat with the pop star, 33 – but he awkwardly admitted during the interview he hadn’t actually listened to her new album, the publication claims.

The newspaper reports that the TV host was subsequently ‘suspended by Seven Network bosses’ for two weeks.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Seven for comment.

Doran reportedly sat down with the Hello hitmaker for a ’20-30 minute’ interview, during which he did not ‘ask a single question about the new album’.

When asked by Adele what he thought of her 30 album, Doran allegedly admitted he had not listened to it.

An offended Adele is then said to have walked out of the interview, although other sources have claimed the interview was already finished when the bestselling musical artist probed Matt.

Although the interview was recorded, Adele’s label Sony reportedly denied Seven the rights to air any portion of it.

A spokesperson for Sony declined to comment on the claims when approached by Daily Mail Australia.

The network allegedly spent $1million on the ill-fated one-on-one interview, an Oprah chat with the star and footage from her One Night Only concert.

Seven seemingly still have the rights to the latter two events, as they are continuing to advertise both on social media.

‘Angry’ Seven executives went on to pull Doran off the air for a fortnight.

He was back on air co-hosting Weekend Sunrise alongside Monique Wright on Saturday.

Online critics quickly lampooned Doran over what happened on social media on Sunday.

‘You had one obvious job and you messed up bad,’ one fan commented on Facebook in response to the reports.

Meanwhile a third compared Matt’s error to participate in an exam but not studying.

However, other fans argued that the decision to suspend Matt wasn’t necessary.

‘I think two weeks suspension is a bit over the top,’ they wrote.

Matt, 37, has had a successful career as a journalist, previously working for The Herald Sun, before going on to work for Network 10. He’s engaged to Weekend Today producer Kendall Bora.
