The Masked Singer’s Heather Small slams Doughnuts’ vocals after being the first to be booted

The Masked Singer star Heather Small has slammed show rival Doughnut after being the first contestant to be voted off the latest series during Saturday’s opening episode.

The M People singer, 56, who was booted off in favour of five other disguised celebrities, said she would have kicked up a fuss if it was a ‘singing show’.

She told The Sun: ‘From some of the vocals that have come out, it’s not a singing show, it’s a guessing game.

‘Now, if it was singing — and Doughnuts went through — I’d have something to say,’ she continued of the character, which has been speculated to be ex-England footballers Gary Lineker, 61, and Michael Owen, 42.

The M People band member revealed she had trained for six weeks to conceal her distinctive voice and felt she she had won the show despite the judges’ decision. 

She said: ‘For me, it wasn’t about winning, but I thought I won because nobody had a clue who I was. And that was the aim.’

Hiding under a Chandelier costume, Heather performed Patsy Cline’s Crazy, however the audience had voted in favour of Doughnuts’ rendition of Eye of the Tiger.

Jonathan Ross, 61, Davina McCall, 54, Rita Ora, 31, and Mo Gilligan, 33, ultimately decided to save Firework and Mushroom, leaving Heather packing her bags.

The soul artist shocked the panel after she removed her costume and told how she had always wanted to ‘give the show a go’ as it looks ‘so much fun’.

The first six contestants were split into three face offs, with Mushroom battling against Robobunny, Donut singing against Chandelier and Firework going up against Lionfish.

Mushroom, Chandelier and Firework ended up in the bottom three after a tense audience vote. The judges then saved Mushroom and Firework leaving Heather to be unmasked.

Speaking after her unveiling Heather said: ‘I have been told I have quite a distinctive voice. I decided to do it because I saw Gabrielle on the show and decided to give it a go as it looked so much fun!’

Her subsequent debut solo album, Proud, was released in 2000 and she was also a contestant on the British television show, Strictly Come Dancing, in 2008.

ITV have unveiled a brand new line-up of monsters performing in the new series, with a brand new cast of 12 celebrities stepping up to the challenge.

Snow Leopard, Traffic Cone, Panda, Rockhopper, Poodle and Bagpipes will all compete in the hope to join Queen Bee (Nicola Roberts) and Sausage (Joss Stone) in the exclusive Masked Singer winners’ club.

Robobunny, Firework, Doughnuts, Chandelier, Mushroom and Lion Fish are others characters set to take to the stage to sing.
