A fed-up TV reporter has glared as a protester interrupted her live cross about Victoria’s controversial new pandemic bill with a sign mocking Daniel Andrews.

The protester stood directly behind Today reporter Izabella Staskowski as she crossed live to the studio from Victorian parliament on Wednesday morning.

The man held a sign showing the faces of the premier, Victorian Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton and Prime Minister Scott Morrison next to the words: ‘Do you trust these men with your children’s lives?

Staskowski could be seen looking out of shot as the man yelled behind her, before telling host Karl Stefanovic she was having ‘technical difficulties’.

The footage comes after protesters spent another night occupying the steps of the Victorian parliament on Tuesday in anger at the state government’s proposed pandemic laws.

Debate on the Public Health and Wellbeing Amendment (Pandemic Management) Bill began in the upper house on Tuesday afternoon and went well into the night.

It is on hold until Wednesday as the chamber deals with non-government business but it is expected to resume on Thursday.

The bill, which gives the premier and health minister the power to declare a pandemic and make public health orders, is all but guaranteed to pass after the government made amendments to secure the support of three crossbench MPs.

But it has become a lightning rod for anti-lockdown and anti-vaccination groups, with hundreds of protesters planning to camp out on the steps of parliament for the duration of the debate.

A video posted on social media shows the protesters gathered around a wooden gallows chanting ‘Freedom’, ‘Traitor’, ‘Kill Dan Andrews’ and ‘Hang Dan Andrews’ while attempting to place the head of an inflatable doll of the premier through the noose.

Mr Andrews said the scenes outside parliament were not a reflection of the Victorian community, given the overwhelming majority had been vaccinated against Covid-19, and accused the opposition of playing ‘political games’.

His wife Catherine meanwhile took to Twitter to thank those who sent messages of support following several days of ugly demonstrations in Melbourne.

Mrs Andrews took the vile threats in her stride, offering a classy response to the horrifying ordeal.

‘We have received so many beautiful messages today from all over. Thank you,’ she said.

‘We are reminded that the light shines in the darkness and the darkness will not overcome it. As ever #IStandWithDan #GoHigh.’
