Tweeting is basic human right! – Pastor Adeboye responds to #Twitterban!

Pastor Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has reacted to the current ban on Twitter by the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

The cleric via a tweet his verified page said tweeting is a basic human right. He also cited Article 19 of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

His tweet reads;

“The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 Nations & Territories. The tweets here are in accordance to Article 19 of the UN universal declaration of Human Rights.”

Article 19 of the UDHR:

“Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers”.

The President Buhari #Twitterban in the country comes after the President’s tweet which had ” genocidal” instinct was deleted by Twitter last Friday.

However, Nigerians have been using Virtaul Private Network not only to boycott the #Twitterban but also to amplify their grievances against the move of the government..

President Buhari has come under severe criticisms by US, UK and Canadian missions in the country over the ban. 

In a latest developments, the Federal Government through the National Broadcast Commission has ordered that all radio and television stations in the country to deactivate their Twitter accounts in compliance to the #Twitterban or face sanctions.
