University of Ilorin student sentenced to three months of commumity service over romance scam! Details 2

A 400-level student of University of Ilorin Akinsanya Olamide Ridwan has been sentenced to three months of community service for pretending to be a white man on a dating site.

He just jailed by Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of the Kwara State High Court after he was arraigned before the court by the EFFC on a one-count charge related to internet fraud.

The charge read;

That you, Akinsanya Ridwan (a.k.a Alex James) sometime in March 2020 or thereabout at Ilorin, Kwara State, within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court attempted to commit an offence of cheating by impersonation by pretending and representing yourself to be a white man called Alex James to an unsuspected white woman, Stewart Sonia on a dating site called Hangout as it is contained in your Gmail account: [email protected] and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 95 of the Penal Code Laws of Northern Nigeria”

He was subsequently fined a sum of N50,000 and was sentenced to three months of community where he is mandated to clean the drainage behind a fuel station in Tanke area of the city up to the University gate.

The sentence will commence on the 2nd of September.
