Victoria Covid: Anti-vaxxers dodge vaccine passport system as Melbourne celebrates Freedom Day 2

Victorian anti-vaxxers have revealed they have been successfully sneaking into pubs and restaurants without being asked for proof of vaccination.

The anti-vaxxers have been boasting about their exploits on social media, revealing how they have skipped QR check-ins and vaccine passport checks across the state.

Hospitality venues, retail stores and beauty salons are only allowed to cater to double-jabbed residents since lockdown was lifted at 11.59pm on Thursday.

Premier Daniel Andrews promised that unvaccinated residents would not enjoy the same freedoms until ‘well into 2022’.

Anti-vaxxers unwilling to wait until next year to return to the store claim they have been able to slip past the check in systems and get a haircut at a salon or grab a drink with friends at the bar.

‘Got a manicure and pedicure at my favourite salon, no questions asked regarding vaccination!!!’ one person wrote on Facebook.

Another person added: ‘I had a nice lunch out in Errol Street, North Melbourne. Not vaccinated and not asked for cert.’

The defiant shoppers have also launched a social media campaign encouraging residents to post a photo of their exploits and shame businesses that refuse them entry.

‘Be a part of #Danslockoutfail by highlighting how the Victorian government will once again fail to enforce its disgraceful mandates,’ the campaign poster reads.

The poster then urges anti-vaxxers to follow two steps.

‘Step 1. Visit a restaurant or shop without showing a vaccine passport and post proof on social media using the hashtag: #Danslockoutfail.’

‘Step 2. If you are denied access to a business because they choose to segregate you from society, shame these apartheid enforcing businesses by posting them on social media using the hashtag: #Victoriaapartheidshame.’

The post has drawn condemnation from the wider community with residents calling out the anti-vaxxers for stirring trouble.

‘Oh just stop already this is getting beyond the joke,’ one person wrote.

Another person added: ‘This only makes people turn on each other. Locals having fights with other locals. Business trying to get started and then having to deal this type of bulls*** online.’

Victoria officially lifted its stay-at-home orders at 11:59pm on Thursday after the beleaguered state passed its 70 per cent Covid vaccination target.

The city has endured a cumulative 262 gruelling days in lockdown – a world record – with non-essential businesses forced to shut and millions trapped in their homes, banned from going outside after 9pm or travelling more than 5km.

They are even forced to wear a mask outside, despite no medical evidence doing so stops transmission of Covid.

Now fully-vaccinated residents are finally free, celebrations mirrored a wild New Year’s Eve party in the nation’s culinary capital as partygoers descended on pubs, flashing their double-jab status upon entry to eagerly awaiting hospitality staff, who had spent much of the day getting ready for the influx of patrons.

For others, midnight finally meant the chance to have their hair cut or get their nails done, with salons opening for the first time – and expecting to continue with round-the-clock appointments for some time to come.
