Each year, the Department of State randomly selects Diversity Immigrant Visa (DV) applicants based on allocations of available visas in each region and country from among all registered applicants. It is important that you always know the application submission period so that you can prepare and apply in time. The application form can only be submitted during the designated application window. Submissions will NOT be accepted via the US Postal Service.
Eligibility Requirements for the US Diversity Visa Lottery 2021/2022
Interested individuals are expected to meet the following eligibility requirements to register for the US Diversity Visa Lottery.
Requirement #1:
Individuals born in qualifying countries may be eligible to participate. If you were not born in a qualifying country, there are two other ways you may qualify.
Was your spouse born in a country whose nationals qualify? If so, you can claim your spouse’s country of birth – provided both you and your spouse are named on the selected entry permit, are eligible, and are issued a diversity visa and enter the U.S. at the same time.
Were you born in a country whose natives are not eligible for a visa, but where neither of your parents was born or legally residing at the time of your birth? If yes, you may list the country where one of your parents was born if it is a country whose natives are eligible for the DV 2021-2022 program.
Requirement 2:
Each DV applicant must meet the education/work experience requirement of the DV program by having either:
At least a high school diploma or its equivalent is defined as successful completion of a 12-year course of formal primary and secondary education.
OR
two years’ work experience within the last five years in a profession requiring at least two years’ education or experience to the practice. The Department of State will use the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net Online database to determine qualifying work experience.
Selection Process and Timeline

- Selection of applicants is based on the allocations of available visas in each region and country, the Department of State will randomly select individuals by computer from among qualified entries.
- All diversity visa lottery (DV-2021/2022) entrants must go to theEntrant Status Checkusing the unique confirmation number saved from your online entry registration to find out whether your entry has been selected in the program.
- If your entry is selected, you will be directed to a confirmation page providing further instructions, including information about fees connected with immigration to the United States.
- Entrant Status Check will be the ONLY means by which the Department of State notifies selectees of their selection for DV-2021/2022.
- The Department of State will not mail notification letters or notify selectees by email. U.S. embassies and consulates will not provide a list of selectees.
- All selectees, including family members, must be issued visas by September 30, 2021.
- Individuals who have not been selected also will be notified ONLY through the Entrant Status Check on the E-DV website. You are strongly encouraged to access Entrant Status Check yourself.
- Do not rely on someone else to check and inform you.

Further Notes on US Diversity Visa Lottery 2021/2022
In order to immigrate;
- DV selectees must be admissible to the United States.
- The DS-260, Online Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration Application is done electronically, and the consular officer, in person, will ask you questions about your eligibility to immigrate under U.S. law; these questions include criminal and security related topics.
- Under no circumstances can the Department of State issue DVs nor can USCIS approve adjustments after this date, nor can family members obtain DVs to follow-to-join the principal applicant in the United States after this date.
- The Department of State will not mail notification letters or notify selectees by email. U.S. embassies and consulates will not provide a list of selectees.

To come to Canada as a temporary foreign worker, you must get a work permit. There are different kinds of work permits.
If you are not a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you need a work permit to work legally in Canada.
In general, you need to apply for a work permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) or a Canadian visa officebeforeyou come to Canada. For these work permits:
- You need to get a job offer from a Canadian employer before you apply.

- ESDC will decide whether the employer can hire a foreign worker to fill the job.
There are special work permits for some kinds of workers. For example, there are special work permit programs for caregivers, business people and agricultural workers.

Work Permits are Temporary

You must meet eligibility requirements to apply for these programs.
You can also apply as a skilled worker, but there is no special category within the skilled worker class for temporary foreign workers.
