Nigeria’s former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida said he can’t reveal some secrets because he is still under “Oath of Secrecy” and he’s still within the period in which if he reveals the secrets, he could be punished.

Ibrahim Babangida said this during an interview conducted on Channels Television recently.

He was asked about the opinions of his friends about being bound by the oath to keep some secrets and he said;

Don’t forget, not only in Nigeria but throughout the world.

For a certain number of years beyond which anybody will punish you, for opening the secret because you have passed a certain period.

He also talked about why his memoir is being delayed. He said the reason for the delay is because he doesn’t want anyone to charge him to court for libel.

I am scared of somebody suing me to court to say that I libelled somebody or that I misrepresented somebody and I will spend five years going to court.

However, he said if he’s unable to complete it, his children will search for resources to do so as he made mention of the library of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo as a good resource center.

It (memoirs) will come but if it doesn’t come my children will go into the classroom and research. Everything that will need research about us we have in abundance. I know that General Obasanjo has a library that is very rich.
