In the early hours of Tuesday, March 23rd  Nigerians taken took to social media to demand that when the 2023 elections take place a Christian president must be voted into office.

The cause for the outcry is because two years before the election takes place, the possible candidates are presented to the public and the campaigning procedure begins in advance.

The question is why should Nigeria produce a Christian president in 2023

Since the transition from Military rule, like clockwork without fail Christian to Muslim transition works which supports the case for a Christian president in 2023 or will be there be an exception.

Olusegun Obasanjo to Umar Yar’Adua to Goodluck Jonathan to Muhammadu Buhari Nigeria’s presidency has rotated from south to north.

In the North, it is always a Muslim candidate even in years where they did not emerge as the winners.

Several people believe a gentleman’s agreement since 1999, Nigeria has practiced a rotational presidency on maintaining some level of religious and ethnic balance.

The essence of this arrangement is for equity’s sake, that’ll strengthen the bond between the two major religions, a Christian president should replace the Muslim President that’s ending his two-term tenure.

While the north is dominated by Muslims and the south by Christians, the religious sentiments should not be taken lightly for the continuous unification of the country.
