An 18-year-old woman has been charged with murdering a newborn baby that was found dead three years ago.

Paris Mayo, 18, from Ruardean, Gloucestershire, was arrested over the death of the youngster near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire in March 2019.

A neighbour had raised the alarm and five police cars turned up at the semi-detached house.

The woman, then 15, was arrested at the family home but was released on police bail. Mayo is due to appear at Kidderminster Magistrates’ Court today or tomorrow.

Superintendent Sue Thomas, Police Commander for Herefordshire, said in 2019: ‘Police were called at around 8.40am Sunday 24 March to reports of a concern for welfare for a newborn baby at a property in Ross-on-Wye.

‘On attendance, the body of a baby was discovered. The baby’s next of kin and the coroner have been informed.

‘The death is being treated as suspicious and investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.

‘A 15-year-old girl from Ross-on-Wye has been arrested in connection with this incident and has been released on police bail while investigations are ongoing.’
