10 facts you probably didn’t know about late Yoruba leader Pa Ayo Fasanmi who died aged 94.

Pa Ayo Fasanmi, a prominent elder statesman and leader of  the Yoruba Social-Cultural group, “Afenifere” died in the early hours of Thursday morning in Oshogbo where he had lived for decades.

Until his death, Pa Ayo Fasanmi was one of the most revered leaders of the Yoruba race and one of the elite political figures in Nigeria’s Democratic history .

He died at the age of 94.

Here are some facts you might not know about him;

• He was born in Iye-Ekiti, Ekiti State on the 27th of September, 1925

• He attended Yaba School of Pharmacy and holds a Diploma in the Profession. He practised for a while before joing Politics in 1978.

• He was elected as a member of the Federal House of Representatives in 1983.

• He served a National President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria in 1977.

• He was one of the disciples of late Obafemi Awolowo, the former Premier of the Western region.

• Pa Fasanmi served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Old Western Nigeria Housing Corporation.

• He contested for Ondo State Governor in 1978 but lost to Michael Adekunle Ajasin
  Pa Ayo Fasanmi also served as the Vice National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy in the Fourth Republic.

• He was a member of National Constitutional Conference Commission in 1994.

• He lost his wife in 2014 who died at the age of 82.
