Ademola Lookman Keeps Atalanta’s Champions League Qualification Dream Alive

Ademola Lookman’s rich goalscoring form this season has been intrumental to Atalanta’s season so far and the Nigerian forward is showing to sign of stopping.

A few days ago, Lookman came off the bench to score a goal and provided an assist in 20 minutes as he dragged Atalanta to the Coppa Italia final.

The Super Eagles forward started for the Bergamo-based side as they welcomed Empoli to the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday evening.

Lookman was involved in the game in the early stages and his pace and trickery paid off as he was brought down the box.

After a Var review, a penalty was awarded for the home side. Mario Pasalic stepped up and converted three minutes before half-time to give Atalanta the lead.

Lookman was a handful for Empoli as he continued to threaten their defense and also creating chances for his teammates.

Eventually, the 26-year-old got his deserved goal six minutes after the restart. Lookman went past a few defenders before burying a left-footed shot from the edge of the box into bottom-left corner to give Atalanta a 2-nil lead.

Ademola Lookman, after a very impressive performance was taken off on the 84th minute and was repaced by Belgian midfielder Charles Xe Katelaere.

The Super Eagles forward now has 9 league goals and 6 assists for Atalanta this season.

The victory over Empoli put Atalanta closer to securing a Champions League spot next season. They are currently 6th with 57 points, 2 points behind Roma.

The top five Serie A teams this seaso will represent Italy in next season’s UEFA Champions League.
