The Super Falcons of Nigeria have landed in the city of Bordeaux for the Paris 2024 women’s football event.
The Nigerian ladies landed at the Bordeaux–Mérignac international Airport on Friday from Seville, Spain where they camped for two weeks.
Ahead of their three group stage matches, the Super Falcons lost 1 nil to Canada in regular time but won 5-4 on penalties in an international friendly while in camp.
The nine-time African champions will play Brazil in their first match on July 25 at the Matmut Atlantique stadium in Bordeaux.
The two teams last played at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the Brazilians outclassed the Super Falcons in a 3-1 win.
However, the Super Falcons came close to upsetting the Brazilian ladies in the quarter finals of the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States.
The Super Falcons came from 3 goals down to draw level in regular time but lost 4-3 in extra time.
The July 25 meeting will be the first between both sides after 16 years of international football and it also marks the return of the Super Falcons to the Olympics after 16 years as well.
