Nigerian champions Enugu Rangers and last season’s runner up, Remo Stars recorded slim wins in their respective CAF Champions League first round round matches.
Enugu Rangers recorded a 1-0 vivtory over Comoros champions Zilimadjou on Sunday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
Frank Uwumiro’s 31st minute goal from a corner kick made the diffeence as the Flying Antelopes took the slim advantage ahead of the second league at the same venue.
Remo stars on the other hand faced a familiar foe in FAR Rabat. The Moroccan club stopped the Sky Blue Stars from progressing the group stage of the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup with a 2-1 aggregate score.
The Sky Blue Stars got their first victory over the Moroccan club in Ikenne on Sunday as the match ended 2-1.
Club captain, Nduka Daniel gave the home side the lead on the 19th minute with a brilliant header from Sodiq Ismail’s free-kick.
FAR Rabat got back into the match a few mimutes after restart. DR Congo striker Joel Beya equalized for the visitors to throw the match open.
However, Remo Stars got in front for the second time in the match and this time, Sodiq Ismail registered his name on the score sheet.
The right full-back got to the end of a cross from the deep and headed the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper to give Remo Stars the lead.
Daniel Ogunmodede’s side held on to their slim win ahead of the second leg in Morocco on the 25th of August as to look to qualify for the final round of qualification.
Enugu Rangers on the hand will look to consolidate their win when they take on Zilimadjou in the second leg at the Godswill Akapabio Stadium in Uyo where they will be the “home” team.
The Flying Antelopes will play on Friday, 23rd of August as they hope to get into the final round of qualification of the CAF Champions League.
